Augmented iPad Reality
After having loads of fun during playtime with OSS-tools such as ARToolKit and FLARManager, it is now time to start exploring the real possibilities of "Augmented Reality" (AR). While we enjoy the recent hype of AR in marketing campaigns, we're convinced the real use of AR lies somewhere else, in areas we're not aware of yet, because it is an experience we never had access to in reality! We have seen wonderful implementations of AR in various science fiction movies before, but now we can even experience it from the comfort of our own house.
While we admit that this video still smells a lot like a marketing buzz, it does show possibilities for complete new experiences with product information. Imagine a large retail store having cards for every product they offer. You can walk to a AR-enabled kiosk, with the cards of products you are interested in and have easy access to product information. No more waiting in line for asking advice from a store clerk on a busy saterday afternoon. No more messing around with different brands, product numbers and barcodes ... just show the card to the camera and you're good to go!
OK OK, we must admit... this demonstration was inspired by the Olympus campaign for the new PEN camera. But it does show what Scrypton can offer you for your next product launch! An important note is that this technology is not only available big international companies with unlimited budgets, small and local businesses can also use this technology. No advanced hardware is required for most applications and rentable solutions are available.
Scrypton also offers consulting to introduce your company into the new and exciting world of "Augmented Reality" and what it has to offer to your business. Contact us for more information.
Scrypton: introduction
Scrypton specializes in software development and IT consultancy, with a primary focus on "Location Based Services" (LBS) and "Augmented Reality" (AR).
For a long time, Scrypton was mainly specialized in the development of web applications, but as the world of internet and technology in general keeps changing at an amazing rate, so are our services shifting towards general software development and IT consultancy.
Some people talk about an "Internet of Things", in which every object (from household appliances over historical monuments to the products you buy at the super market) is somehow incorperated into the internet. Scrypton supports this idea in many ways and would like to see internet technology implemented there where it belongs: everywhere and in every situation. By that we don't mean we want to see each and every physical object connected to the internet, because that would be a bit too much (even for a geeky figure as myself). But advanced technologies, found in different parts of this glorious world, offer possibilities we have never seen before.
Scrypton engages itself, with a variaty of creative partners, to merge those technologies into a single experience. Thereby offering unique features for both businesses and consumers, in a variaty of ways. Scrypton doesn't offer dreamy promises about future products, but actual implementations of the latest technology today. So that we are ready for the future today!
